Talabania Police Seize Iron Rod, Beer Bottles; Two Arrested for Extortion

In a major late-night operation, Talabania Police in Puri arrested two alleged extortionists for threatening tourists with an iron rod and attempting to attack police personnel during patrol duty.

According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of June 26 near the Central School in the PKRIT area. Acting on a tip-off, a police patrol team led by ASI S.K. Patro rushed to the spot after receiving information that two men were extorting money from tourists by brandishing an iron rod.

When the police reached the location, the suspects allegedly threatened tourists and obstructed them on the road. As officers tried to apprehend them, one accused reportedly swung an iron rod at the police team with the intention of causing serious injury. The officers narrowly escaped before overpowering and arresting both suspects after a brief struggle.

The arrested accused have been identified as Sania alias Sanatan Pradhan (20) and Bagada alias Muna Patra (28), both residents of Nuasahi on Nabakalebar Road under Talabania Police Station area. During questioning, the accused allegedly admitted to extorting money from tourists.

Police seized one iron rod and two beer bottles from their possession. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Talabania IIC Abhinav Mishra informed that cases have been filed against both the accused in various cases and they have been prosecuted.
