District Collector Divya Jyoti Parida presided over this first mock drill organized at Puri Town Police Station premises. As it is estimated that a larger number of devotees will gather for the Rath Yatra this year compared to last year, the District Collector said that coordination among all departments is very important for the convenience, safety and orderly darshan of the devotees.
Police, NDRF, ODRF, Fire Department, Health Department, Civil Defence Force, Voluntary Organizations, Transport, Municipal Administration and Information Departments and various agencies participated in this mock drill.
The District Magistrate said that through the mock drill, the preparedness, efficiency and coordination of various departments can be assessed. Where there are weaknesses and how to provide services more efficiently in a short time will also be experienced. He informed that another mock drill will be held on July 10.
SP Prateek Singh said that the real experience of how quickly and accurately a response can be given in any emergency situation is being gained from this mock drill. He said that this will increase the efficiency and confidence of the entire team.
DGM Osdam Sunil Kumar Sahu briefed about the purpose of the mock drill and conducted it. The Rath Yatra SOP booklet was also released on the occasion.
Later, a demonstration of coordinated emergency rescue operations of NDRF, ODRF, Fire, Medical, Police, Ambulance and other departments was held through the Integrated Control Room. This mock drill demonstrated the real-life practice of how to deal with any incident quickly and successfully during the Rath Yatra.
It is expected that this coordinated preparation by the administration to make the world-famous festival like Rath Yatra safe and orderly will help in providing more safe and orderly services to the devotees in the coming days.
